This Cemetery contains the remains of 2,460 German soldiers of the First World War who fell in the months-long 1915 battle for control of the Linge sector of the Vosges Mountains front. Of the total interred, 1518 are in graves, 40 of which are unknown. The ossuary holds the remains of an additional 942, with 516 of those being unidentified.

The cemetery was built by the French military authorities for bodies recovered from temporary graves. The cemetery is maintained by the Volksbund Deutsche Kreigsgraberfursorge (German War Graves Commission or "Volksbund") based on the War Graves Agreement concluded between Germany and France. The Commission did the first improvements in 1926. Starting in 1966, the Commission has undertaken a series of improvements, replacing wooden crosses with metal crosses and re-landscaping the wooded cemetery.

Close to La Linge 1915 and a worthy resting place for these soldiers.
